Summary
Expressing his pleasure at receiving his last letter; expressing his agreement with him on the preference for the Vice Presidency over the Presidency which he reminds him he referred to in an earlier letter to him as "a station of splendid misery';" enclosing a duplicate of a letter of the "15th of august last" as he feared, since he had not had a reply, "that the activity of electioneering partizans would endanger its passage & subject me to an apparent negligence..;" adding that the duplicate is in the hand of his son who sends his regards to him.
