Summary
Following up on a meeting he had that morning with Gerry and Pinckney in which he was asked to call on the Minister of Marine and inform him that "a report had been made of your calling on him, & not finding him at home, that he had returned your visit: also that you made Some communications to him respecting a loan to France by American individuals;" saying that "in answer he Said that he knew nothing of this fable (these were his words) that he never had the pleasure to receive a visit from you, nor to pay you one, & that he never received any communications whatever in your name, respecting a loan or any thing else : at the Same time he desired me to call on M. Talleyrand & to tell him the story."
