Summary
Commenting on the state of affairs in England and with the East India Company; saying that "With respect to India Politics I am strongly of Opinion they are likely to remain some years on their present footing....The Act of Parliament must however at all events be renewed, which will of Course bring the Affairs of the East before Parliament, when a new Administration will be Settled, and in all probability you will be appointed to the Chair. Mr. E[llis] is of Opinion you will be prefer'd before all others as every Plea of Merit is on your Side, Knowledge, Integrity & Abilities. Mr. H[astings] has certainly fallen very low in the Opinion of many of Warmest Friends....I confess I very much approve your open Declaration against H[astings] as people with respect to you both must now be decided.
