No year of writing is given. However, the "late Mr Emery" is most likely the actor John Emery, who died in 1822. The benefit in question may have been the one held on August 5, 1822 at the Royal Covent Garden Theatre. The Morgan holds the manuscript of an address given at this benefit, composed by George Colman and delivered by George Bartley (cataloged as MA 9468).
