Summary
Commenting on the application of Mr. [Josiah] Dwight to be reinstated to his office of Clerk of the Courts in Hampshire County and his request for any objections to the reappointment; saying "That objections do exist, in regard to his being inimical to the national government & as acting in concert with those who are endeavoring to subvert it & to sever the union of the states : circumstances which have produced a preference of any candidates, in the minds of the real friends of the national constitution, government, laws & Union in that quarter, to himself;" adding "That the Council have declined hearing any incumbent on an application for office, because it being vacated by law, places him in the same state, as any other applicant, who are never heard on such occasions; " asking, in a postscript, for the return of his letter.
