Summary
Thanking him for his letter and for his offer to him, his wife and children to bring things back for them; saying that he doesn't know "of a single article wanted for them or ourselves, which cannot be furnished by our shops & stores here. The commerce of this country is very extensive & daily increasing;" inviting him and his family to stay with them in Boston on their return; commenting that "The political line of conduct pursued by this country, must I think be approved by all the virtuous & wise : it certainly produces as much public happiness & prosperity, as falls to the lot of any nation on earth. I flatter myself that you will have been able to place the relations of Spain & this country on a friendly footing; for we can expect nothing from contentions with any country. The rights & dignity of the nation must indeed be always preserved. From the great movements of the great European combatants, much is to be expected & time only will develop the events."
