The manuscript is enclosed in a wrapper of a larger paper watermarked 1813 and inscribed in an unknown hand "The argument of the / Orlando Inamorato / prepared for translation, &c - / by John Hoole Translator / of Tasso / in his own hand."
Notes in the collection file suggest "The present manuscript is probably the only surviving record of this unpublished translation. It cannot be firmly dated, but was probably written between the publication of Ariosto in 1783 and Hoole's death in 1803."

Autograph manuscript of 50 pages and 8 blank pages of a summary of the story of the "Orlando Inamorato" of Matteo Boiardo which, according to typed notes in the collection file, suggest was written by Hoole in preparation for a translation of that work which he did not publish.
