Concerning Lord Palmerston; saying "I fear you will be disappointed in the interest Ld. Palmerston will take in your matter. I hope you may be right, but in my estimate of his character, these are not views to have rule over his mind. As to the Quarterly, the whole 'animus' of its articles on him are so hostile, that no tinkering of words [illegible] alter the tendency to which the Review is, in a manner, pledged. My [illegible] does not come off for some months; my [illegible] of hope is so small, that I look on every new position of life & new responsibility with little besides anxiety."
