This item was formerly cataloged as part of a three-volume collection of correspondence of Sir Philip Francis (MA 148-150); however, this there is no evidence was ever part of that collection.
The letter is undated however the letter concerns changes Byron wished to make to his "Address on the Opening of the Drury-Lane Theatre on Saturday, October 10, 1812."
Holland has drawn a hand with a finger pointing to the word "To" which starts the 4th line and also drew a circle around the word. Holland drew another finger pointing to the phrase in the following line "we the mirror hold, where imaged" which he has circled.
Summary
Concerning changes Byron would like made to his Address; saying "I have received a letter from L'd Byron & he is anxious if it is not too late that you should repeat the lines after "Brinsley ceased to write" as they are written below - / Heirs to their labours, like all highborn heirs / Vain of our ancestry as they of theirs, / While thus remembrance borrows Banquo's glass / To claim the sceptred shadows as they pass / And we the mirror hold, where imaged shine / Immortal names, emblazoned on our line, / Pause &c &c &c / The alteration is so trifling that I hope it will not disconcert you though it comes so late."
