Thanking him for sending his book The Philosophy of the Beautiful, "which I hope to read with pleasure at the first opportunity I get in my busy life"; giving Knight permission to use any extracts he likes from Irving's lecture in a new edition: "I should be only too pleased to see my ideas [illegible word] in so admirable a work as yours seems to be in glancing through it"; writing that he hopes Knight comes to the theater during his stay in London.
