17th-century English gilt-tooled blue morocco over paper boards (39/38.5 x 29 cm), sewn on 6 supports. Marbled paper pastedowns and endleaves, with plain paper endleaves; decorative endbands; gilt edges.
Inscriptions/Markings
Hand decoration: Contemporary illuminated presentation scenes and initials (vol. I, leaf [3]/1r and vol. II, leaf [30]/1r), rubricated initials in red/blue with red penwork decoration, with minor initials in red, red headlines, roman numeral foliation, capital strokes, and paragraph marks. Annotations: Each chapter includes an extract of the original Latin text in the margin in a very clear bookhand. Contemporary alpha-numeric quire signatures (many trimmed), with later alpha-numeric signatures.
