15th-century (Austrian/Viennese?) blind-tooled (heavily worn) calf over wooden boards (42.5 x 29 cm), sewn on 5 supports; rebacked. Pastedowns are contemporary Viennese manuscript documents written in German: 1) document between two women: Dorothe Thomans and Dorothe Hausenschuster(?), dated Vienna, "Fritag vor sand Stephanus tag" 1458 (front pastedown) and 2) undated, related to Weingarten and written in Vienna (rear pastedown).

Inscriptions/Markings
Hand decoration: Contemporary rubrication, alternating red and blue initials and paragraph marks, and red headlines. Annotations: Marginal notations throughout in at least 2 contemporary hands, including textual corrections and comments. Contemporary arabic quire numbers on first leaves, mostly trimmed.

Dorothea, donation inscription from Jacob Sutoris (Schuster): "Iste lib[er] e[st] mo[na]sterij S. dorothee v[ir]g[in]is wienne que[m] f[rate]r Jacob[us] sutor[is] de pruck p[os]t sua[m] p[or]fessio[nem] voluit e[ss]e [com]mu[n]e[m]," 15th century (leaf [1]/1) with two further S. Dorothea inscriptions in same hand: "Iste liber e[st] mo[na]sterij S. dorothee v[ir]g[in]is wienne" (leaves [9]/5r and [17]/12v) and purchase inscription "Emp. p[ro] iij flo[rens] hu[???] et 30 d[enarii]" (leaf [17]/12v); unidentified shelfmarks, 17th/18th century: No. 89 (crossed out), No. 560, II-A-2, and II-A7 (leaf [1]/1r); Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913), purchased from Paul Gottschalk, Dec. 1910.
