18th-century French gilt-tooled citron morocco over paper boards (27.5 x 20 cm), sewn on 5 supports. Marbled paper pastedowns and endleaves, with plain paper endleaves; decorative endbands; red edges.
Inscriptions/Markings
Hand decoration: Rubrication unrealized. Leaves added from Houghton copy with rubricated paragraph marks and yellow highlighting of first words washed away (visible under UV). Annotations: A few marginal nota bene marks in text. Pen trials, leaf b1r.

Unidentified armorial: lion, bend charged 3 shells, crowned (binding stamp); Charles Fairfax Murray (1849-1919), French Books, no. 381 (missing leaves a1.8, p1-8; q7-8, and C8); Arthur Rau (Paris, bookseller), added in the missing leaves (see notes in ChL file); Edmée Maus (1905-1971), no. 1048, monogram booklabel (front endleaf 1 recto); Pierpont Morgan Library, purchased from André Jammes, 1975 (with missing leaves replaced).
