Modern half brown goatskin over paper boards with sides covered in glazed paper (28.5 x 20 cm), sewn on 4 supports. Glazed paper pastedowns and fly leaves, with plain paper fly leaves; decorative endbands.

Inscriptions/Markings
Hand decoration: Rubricated, red highlights on printed initials and woodcuts, capital strokes and on punctuation, and underlining. Note added by rubricator at chapter 16 that the figure belongs at chapter 21: "dise vigur gehört zu den xxi kapitel und die xvi da heir" (matching printed note stating this at chapter 21). Annotations: No marginal notations. Partially trimmed inscription: "schwarz ga[?]" with red cross in rubricator's ink (leaf [10]/7v). A few woodcuts have minor notations/doodles, ca. 1550 (i.e. leaf [6]/3r). German inscription, 1550: "Ist ain treffenliche, warhafftige hystori. Nutzlich und mit allem vleiss zu lesen [und] (in another hand) wörkh mir Pleistdauff(?)." German bibliographic notations (second front fly leaf recto).
