Right: Emmet Gowin (American, b. 1941), Edith, 2004 (Rain Droplets in a Web). Gold toned salt print on gelatin coated paper. Collection of Emmet and Edith Gowin
On his expeditions in rain forests in Central and South America, Gowin takes small prints of his wife, as “a way of bringing Edith along, including her in the work.” After a light summer rain at home in 2004, he slipped one of these prints behind an elaborate spider web and photographed it through the beads of rain, which became a veil across her eyes.
