Hello. I’m Colin B. Bailey, Director of the Morgan Library and Museum, and I’m delighted to welcome you to Beatrix Potter: Drawn to Nature. Touring from the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, this exhibition explores the natural world that inspired Potter’s art and literature, as immortalized in her beloved tales for children. From rabbits and dogs to mushrooms and flowers, this world comes alive in Potter’s lively watercolors and writing. Drawings, books, manuscripts, and objects from the Victoria & Albert, as well as the United Kingdom’s National Trust, join a group of picture letters from the Morgan to tell the story of a remarkable writer, illustrator, and environmentalist.

As you move through the gallery, look for the audio symbols to discover commentary from the exhibition’s organizing curator, the Morgan’s Philip Palmer, as well as readings in Beatrix Potter’s voice by actor Lara Carroll. Alongside displays about Beatrix Potter’s beloved tales for children you will also hear audiobook excerpts read by British actors David Harewood, Richard Armitage, and Robert Webb.

Thank you for joining us at the Morgan. We hope you enjoy your visit.
