16th-century French brown calf with red, brown and black leather onlays, gold tooled with apparently Cupid's Bow Binder's tools (cf. Nixon) used in forming lozenge-shaped centre piece and repeating segments along the sides of a rectangular panel; with motto "Sile et spera" gold tooled on sides.
