These are the earliest small-format scores. According to Rita Benton, they were announced in the Journal typographique et bibliographique on 5 June 1802 (vols. 1 and 2), 26 August 1802 (vol. 3), and 26 December 1802 (vol. 4); see Rita Benton, Pleyel as Music Publisher: A Documentary Sourcebook of Early 19th-Century Music (Stuyvesant, N. Y.: Pendragon Press, 1990), 1-2. Hoboken 3:65 and Hoboken-Sammlung 7:156-58, apparently misreading the Republican calendar, have 1803.
