Pen and some point of the brush (loose hatching at right) and brown ink, washed in brown and some gray-brown, opaque white in angel's wing and Jacob's left foot, on paper; pentimento in Jacob's left leg and feet; framing line in brown ink.
Arched top: 9 1/4 (at left margin; height to top of arch: 11 inches [280 mm.]) x 8 1/16 inches (235 x 205 mm) on sheet pieced by the artist at lower edge (15/16 inch [24 mm.])
Purchased by Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913) in 1909.
