Summary: 

Expressing pleasure at receiving her letter; telling her that "it is not in my power to furnish you with the information you ask respecting Mr. Blodget's Military Services -- But you may undoubtedly get upon the track, and most probably get all the information you wish from the War Office of the United States at Washington City.....Though I was well acquainted with Mr. Blodget, yet I cannot recollect with whom he served or in what capacity, still less the exact period of his service;" offering to make inquiries on her behalf among his military friends.
