Written on mourning paper from "aux eaux de Liebenstein, [illegible] de Saxe Meimingen."
The signature of this letter is not entirely clear and there is no indication of the recipient; authorship has been ascribed to Bernhard, Duke of Saxe-Weimar based on the contents of the letter.
It is possible that his niece is Helene of Mecklenburg (1814-1858), the wife of Ferdinand, Duke of Orleans, who died from the flu on May 17, 1858.
