Thackeray is referring to two articles which appeared in the March 1861 issue of the Cornhill Magazine; one by Charles Augustus Ward, "The Turkish Bath" and the other by James Hinton, "Health."
The note has no salutation and is undated, however Thackeray has addressed it to "G.S. Esq." on the verso; the probable month and year of writing is from the published letter.
Part of a collection of letters from William Makepeace Thackeray to George D. Smith. Letters in this collection have been described individually in separate catalog records; see collection level record for more information.
Saying "Turkish Bath certainly on a taking subject, & Health a pleasing one."
