Binding:
16th-century French or Flemish blind- and gold-tooled brown calf over paper boards; hinges repaired, endleaves and pastedowns renewed. Nixon attributed this binding to the Mansfeld Binder (see Nixon, Sixteenth-century blind-tooled bindings in the Pierpont Morgan Library, p. 88), but some of the individual tools are only very close copies of those of the Mansfeld Binder, while the overall design is not anything typical of the Mansfeld Binder's production.
