Acquired as part of a large collection of letters addressed to William Angus Knight, Chair of Moral Philosophy at the University of St. Andrews and Wordsworth scholar. Items in the collection have been individually accessioned and cataloged.
Referring to Knight's "disappointment at Aberdeen;" discussing, at length and in detail, his opinions on how the works to be included in the Wordsworth edition should be selected and edited and the likely audience for it; adding that he has "...been doing something in the way of notes with a view to Hegel - but I should not wish to make any promises - as with my way of working - I am afraid the promise itself would make the performance more difficult by tying me down to a time. I shall, therefore, say nothing about it, till I am nearly in a position to send you the MS;" adding that he is leaving for Russia and gives him his contact address in St. Petersburg.
