Item description:

Toni Morrison's Art of Fiction interview, conducted by Claudia Brodsky Lacour and Elissa Schappell, appeared in The Paris Review's fortieth-anniversary issue. Morrison revised her interview extensively, making many additions and corrections to the draft text, as shown in this page, in which she discusses American literature's relationship with race. In the same year this interview was published, Morrison was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Morrison was Robert F. Goheen Professor in the Council of the Humanities at Princeton University from 1989 until her retirement in 2006.
