The Prince Regent stands in profile to the right on a high rostrum, hammer in hand, selling by auction the property of his mother Queen Charlotte. The Duke of York, his right arm in a sling, sits at a desk below the rostrum, pen in hand, acting as auction clerk. On his stool is a cushion inscribed '[£]10.000' Under the stool is a bundle of papers: 'Clarks Charges'. A footman in livery holds up for inspection a ragged petticoat supported on a pole. The Regent holds up a tattered shawl. On the extreme left, behind the Regent, stand six dukes and dutchesses. At the table in front of the rostrum five ladies sit, with catalogues.
