The board consists of a handcolored engraved sheet mounted in eight sections on a single folded sheet of linen; 32 illustrated numbered panels, which show men in various walks of life or pictures of various buildings, are arranged in two concentric, counter-clockwise tracks which lead to a larger un-numbered panel in the center. It shows a group of boys actually playing the game.
Issued with instruction booklet with directions for playing and 33 verses of explanation of the images.
The board of the Library's copy now unfolded and matted (PML 85723.1) booklet (PML 85723.2) and slipcase (PML 85723.3) are stored separately in same box.
The game is played with a teetotum and counters, and the order of play, beginning at the outer edge of the spiral in no. 1, "The House of Industry", is based on the players' respective ages.
Teetotem, counters, and markers are not supplied by the publisher.
