DE BOYSI ET GRAND ESCVYER DE FRANCE); A. Firmin-Didot sale (Paris, 1884, no. 27) to Vicomte F. de Janzé; purchased by J. Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913) from Leclerc before 1909 (perhaps before the F. de Janzé sale); J.P. Morgan (1867-1943).

Ms. book of hours for the use of Rome (Hours of the Virgin); written and illuminated in Paris, France, between 1550 and 1558.
Decoration: 8 full-page miniatures.
Two leaves from this manuscript (the calendar miniatures for November and December) are located in the Musée Marmottan, Paris (the Wildenstein Collection, no. 162 and 164); one leaf (the calendar miniature for May) is located in the Wallace Collection, London, M 323; one leaf (the calendar miniature for August) is located in the Musée national de la Renaissance, Ecouen (ECL 8632); one leaf (the miniature of the Annunciation to the Shepherds, formerly in the collection of Jean Masson, Amiens) is in the Ecole nationale supérieure des beaux-arts, Paris (Masson MS 165).
Artist: Baptiste Pellerin (formerly the Master of the Hours of Claude Gouffier) executed the miniatures on fol. 37v, 40, 47v, 62, 79, and 104; the Master of the Psalter of Claude Gouffier executed the miniature on fol. 25v and was responsible for the heraldic frontispiece on fol. 1v.
Baptiste Pellerin also excuted the two miniatures in the Wildenstein Collection and the miniature in the Wallace Collection.
The Master of the Psalter of Claude Gouffier also executed the miniature at the Musée nationale de la Renaissance and that at the Ecole nationale supérieure des beaux-arts.
Missing leaves: between fol. 14v and 15 one leaf containing a full page Annunciation and the beginning text for Matins; between fols. 32v and 33 one leaf containing a full page Nativity and the beginning text for Prime; between fols. 34v and 35 one leaf containing a full page Annunciation to the Shepherds for Terce; and between fols. 42v and 43 one leaf with the end of the text for None and The Flight into Egypt for Vespers
