Contemporary Bruges illuminated initial and border, including a woman holding a distaff and unidentified armorial: azure, bend argent, chevron gules and three flowers (leaf [1]/2r), initials in red and blue (primary initials with penwork decoration), paragraph marks (some with fleur-de-lys decoration), yellow capital strokes, and ruling. Same hand and amorial as in PML 25 and 118. Annotations: Early marginal notations: 1) noting missing lines of text in Heroides VII (leaf [16]/2r) and 2) an alternate reading "in alii codicibus... sum brevis at nomen quod terras impleat omnes, est mihi mensuram nominis ipsa fero" (leaf [19]/7r), and several other textual corrections throughout. Several early alpha-numeric quire signature, mainly trimmed.

Provenance:
Unidentified Bruges/Flemish armorial (leaf [1]/2r); Antoine Augustin Renouard (1765-1853), his sale, Evans (London), 23 June 1834, lot 1260* (bound in 3 vols. in red morocco); Archibald Acheson, Earl of Gosford (1806-1864), purchased from Payne & Foss in 1837, armorial binding by Charles Lewis; James Toovey (1814-1893), purchased Gosford's library en bloc in 1878, Burnham Abbey booklabel (front pastedown); Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913), purchased with the Toovey collection, 1899.
