Inscribed on verso of lining, in pen and brown ink, possibly by Charles Fairfax Murray, "The Picture for which this is designed, is in the Imperial Gallery / at Viena, his Drawings are little known, in his Painting he / imitated Titian so closely that many of his Pictures pass / for the works of that Master - C.M."
