Inscribed at lower left corner, in pen and brown-gray ink, "Cavedone"; on verso of mount upside down near upper left in pen and brown ink, "I 85-4-D"; vertically along left edge from bottom to top in pen and red ink, "Lot 270"; vertically near lower center from top to bottom in pen and brown ink, "Tuit"; along bottom in pen and gray ink, "Cavedone Giacomo di Safsuolo/ Pope receiving a Deputation/ Pen & Bistre", heightened with white/ / "Crozat Collection"; also inscribed on verso of mount at lower right corner in pen and dark gray ink, "yt".
