Inscribed at lower right corner, in brown ink, "Bot[h]". Inscribed on the verso, in Esdaile's hand, in brown ink: at lower center, "WE(in ligature)sdaile"; at lower left corner, "1831 WE. N 40x" and "Both". Numbered in graphite: at upper center, "23b[or 6 or c]"; and at lower left corner, "900".
Watermark: Countermark: Letters "PR" (similar to Heawood, no. 3069: London); Letters centered between chain lines, touching at bottom serif. Letters "PR", placed between chain lines.
