Signed and dated at the lower right center, in gray-brown ink, "L. Backh. 1672". Inscribed on the verso, in graphite, at left margin, in Ploos van Amstel's hand, "hoog 6 / bred 10 1/2"; in a different hand, "G[?] No ["o" in superscript] 6 / UA"; in yet another hand, "N 14"; at center, in a modern hand, "M Bordes"; in another hand, "No ["o" in superscript] 7" and "H"; and below this, "3".
Watermark: Foolscap with seven points, over 4 and three balls (similar to Heawood, no. 2003: 1671-2), cap with two balls and a point, hair under cap.
