Psalter
Ms. psalter single leaf (6 other leaves from the same Psalter are owned by the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, England, MS 330) (William de Brailes psalter), written and illuminated in England, Oxford, ca. 1230-1240.
The back (verso) of this cutting is blank and is not lined (glued down to a secondary support).
Decoration: 1 full-page miniature comprising 6 oval medallions with scenes of the childhood of Christ, arranged in 3 rows of 2, superimposed upon a rectangular ground with 8 figured medallions set into the frame depicting: the prophets Hosea, Habakkuk, Jeremiah and Isaiah at the corners; Daniel and Balaam at the center sides; two eagles at upper and lower centers; between the medallions are 2 small roundels at center and 4 half-roundels at the sides, holding lions, cockerels, and squirrels.
