Fifteen Sandhya hymns with nine illustrations, written and illuminated in Kashmir, India, in the eighteenth century. The text, approximately 18 syllables per line and written by more than one hand, has been inscribed on Kashmiri-style laid and shell-burnished paper. The codex contains a collection of hymns used in the twice or sometimes three times daily twilight ritual (Sandhyā) performed by the head of a household for the benefit of his family. The hymns are devoted to common brahmanical, tantric, and local Kashmiri deities, as well as the nine planets.
Decoration: 9 full-page miniatures some with floral borders. The first miniature is painted on card and pasted down. Text folios have been elaborately framed with orange and black ink. The titles and colophons have been rubricated.
