Ms. letters patent of nobility for Arias Gonzalez de Navia y Valledor; written and illuminated in Valladolid, Spain, in 1578 (authorized on Mar. 24, 1578).
Signed on fol. 97v by the lawyers Jimenez de Cabredo, Atienca, Arebaldo de Sedeno.
Scribe: Xavierdo; colophon on fol. 97v reads: Yo crotobal de Aulentia scrivano de los hijos dalgo de la audiencia de su majestad la fize scrivir por su mandado por xavierdo de los scribanos de los hijos dalgo en esta nobenta y siete hojas de pergamino conesta.
Decoration: 1 full-page illumination (Arias Gonzalez and family kneeling before a vision of the Virgin and Child; arms of the Navia y Valledor family: coupé, in the first, six contons (1) argent, a tree vert; (2) or, an armed knight argent; (3) azure a fleur-de-lis or surmounted by a star of the same; (4) a boar hunt; (5) gules a castle or surmounted by a white bird; (6) or, a military cook or maker of ammunition; in the second: combat in the mountains; upper half of shield surrounded by the motto: El solar del valledor es antiguo y de gran valor; lower half has the motto: Dios me aiude ybias ybias); 1 historiated initial P (St. Martin sharing his cloak with a crippled beggar); and portrait of Philip II.
