Previously in 17th or 18th century French calf with arms that have been identified as those of René-François, marquis de La Vieuville; rebound in 1/2 brown morocco by Marguerite Duprez Lahey, who has pasted the previous arms inside front cover; printed on spine: Histoire Universelle et les Faits des Romans, French XV Century.

Provenance: 
Possibly owned by René-François, marquis de La Vieuville (1652-1740); possibly owned by Charles-Louis-Auguste de La Vieuville, marquis de St-Chamond (1726-1761; not identified in his sale (Paris, Mar. 18, 1762)); number 277 in a collection (written on a small paper rectangle pasted on fol. 332); purchased by J. Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913) from Leo S. Olschki in 1912; J.P. Morgan (1867-1943).

Ms. romances; written and illuminated in France, ca. 1390-1400.
Decoration: 2 half-page miniatures, one in four divisions; one large miniature and 26 smaller miniatures.
Texts: Histoire universelle depuis la Création jusqu'a César (fol. 1-230v); Faits des Romains (fol. 231-420v).
The arms in the previous binding are said to have been added circa 1740--Cf. De Ricci.
