Missal
Ms. missal for use of the Lateran Canons of Santa Maria Bianca de Caserto, Milan (calendar); written and illuminated in Italy, Milan, ca. 1413
Added texts: on fol. 1, the Dies irae, and a series of added prayers; fol. 2v has 8 lines of verse in Italian, beginning: Era la notte e lo stellato velo / Coprian le nubi d'ogni intorno accolte....
A note at the bottom of fol. 4 (nota q[uod] ubi I[n]ven[er]is l[itte]ram do[mini]cale[m] post aureu[m] nu[mer]m scriptu[m] de nigro ibi res[u]rectio do[mini] MCCC XIII c[ur]rebat aureus n[umer]us viij) suggests a date around or shortly after 1413 for the manuscript.
Decoration: 1 2-column miniature, 24 historiated initials, 1 added pen-drawn historiated initial, 1 full border framing the text.
Textiles: in M.937 folder, a large piece of gold silk brocade and a bundle of satin ribbons probably used as place markers.
Musical notation: 3- and 4-line red staves with square notes throughout; front and back pastedowns are leaves from 16th-century antiphonary, the text on back pastedown reading: In festo omniu[m] sanctorum ordinis S.P.N.F. ad matuti[ne?] hymn[us] Placare, Christe, servulis quibus patris clementium; followed by 4-line red stave with square notes.
