"Blessed are they that fear the Lord [an Anthem designed for a] general Thaksgiving, on [the Queen] of K. James 2d. being declared wi[th] child. Hen: Purcell." At the end: "NB: This Anthem was Composed for the thanksgiving Appointed to be Observed in London & 12 miles round, Jany. 15, 1687/8 and on the 29th following over England for the Queen's [footnote: of James II.] being with child. But the order was recalled, & very few copies of this Anthem being delivered out, it is extremely scarce." At the bottom of last page: "Collated from a M.S. in the possession of W. Flackton (Musician, of Canterbury, co. Kent, 1766."
Copyist's manuscript of the anthem for two sopranos, alto, bass, 2 violins, viola, and basso continuo. The words and letters in brackets are presumably present but were covered when the book was rebound.
