Drawing inspiration from many of his contemporary artists of the time, such as Chagall and Kandinsky, Robert Delaunay worked closely with his wife Sonia Delaunay-Terk as well. With his wife, he is said to have instigated the poetically named art movement known as Orphism. Inspired by a pioneer of engineering, Louis Bleriot, the first aviator to fly over the English Channel, this piece mimics the movements of airplane propellers with the circular shapes and highlights details from the Eiffel Tower.
