The workshop will be led by Alwin A.D. Jones, PhD, a formerly tenured professor of Black Literature and Global Studies, a writer, performance poet, and teacher. This single session free virtual event takes place during the Midwinter Recess for New York public schools.

Participants will:

  • Discover the social justice and community activism of Gwendolyn Brooks
  • Find inspiration in poetry prompts created by Brooks herself
  • Create original poems in their own voice
  • Learn more about Black-owned publishers and bookstores
  • Explore the Morgan’s research opportunities and collection online

Recommended for ages 13 to 18 years. No experience required. Participants will need to have paper and pencil for the workshop.

Please Be Aware: This Virtual Program is for TEENS ONLY and you must register with a valid e-mail address.

Please note that the program will take place online. After registering, participants will receive a confirmation e-mail with instructions on how to participate using Zoom. We ask that you download the app in advance for the best user experience.
