Buried Treasures: The Eugene V. Thaw Collection Of Early Medieval Ornaments

The historical period dubbed by the poet Dante as “The Dark Ages,” lies between the late Roman Period and the High Middle Ages. It is a fascinating time of cultural change and migration. This program will examine objects of personal adornment from this period in the Morgan’s collection. Participants will examine ravishing miniature masterpieces of gold, gems, and metalwork that reveal intricate patterns of animal, human and geometric design. As wearable signifiers of identity, these objects often accompanied their owners in both life and death.

Please note that the program will take place online. After registering, participants will receive a confirmation e-mail with instructions on how to participate using Zoom. We ask that you download the app in advance for the best user experience.
