Colorful drawings on wood background with watercolor paint palettes and crayon box to the side.

The exhibition Another Tradition: Drawings by Black Artists from the American South, celebrates recent acquisitions at the Morgan from the Souls Grown Deep Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting Black Southern artists and their communities.

Another Tradition takes a closer look at the medium of drawing, and how it can be an art of  “making do,” using simple supplies and materials found around the house. Family program participants will take a virtual tour of the exhibition, then take part in a live art workshop lead by Goose Grease House for the Arts. During the workshop, participants will copy the painting Courthouse by Henry Speller.

Workshop Supplies:

  • Sturdy white paper
  • Watercolors, paint brush, water cup, and a rag
  • Crayons
  • Ruler
  • For virtual programs, participants provide their own materials.

Family programs are designed for adults and children to enjoy together. Recommended for children ages 7–14. No experience required.

Please note that the program will take place online. After registering, participants will receive a confirmation e-mail with instructions on how to participate using Zoom. We ask that you download the app in advance for the best user experience.
