Study of armor [print].
Title devised by cataloger.
Unlettered lithographic proof printed on chine.
Library's copy mounted on folio 12 of a bound volume of prints by and after Bonington (see Bonington album PML 140269), with the pencilled inscription "After Bonington by J.D. Harding" on the page below the print.
Study is a detail from the larger composition treated in Bonington's painting "On the Staircase"; the lithograph was possibly executed, and ultimately rejected, by Harding for inclusion in his 1829 set of facsimiles after Bonington, entitled A series of subjects from the works of the late R. P. Bonington. Cf. Noon.
A study of a figure in armor against a black background, showing the torso and helmet viewed from the back, the left hand resting on the hip and the hilt of a sword visible at right.
