Summary:

(In William's hand) informing Lady Beaumont that he has arrived back in Grasmere and took some time before writing; describing how much his daughter, Dorothy, has changed in the two months he was away; expressing that since he has been home, he has spent most of his time outdoors, which she would love; saying that he has talked a great deal about her summer visit and is worried about the sitting room in the inn; describing a small cottage that is nearby the lake; adding that he has received a long letter from Mr. Price and how he speaks fondly of Sir George; concluding that he will write Sir George soon and praising their friendship; (in Dorothy's hand) saying that her brother handed her this letter to send, but she can't let it go without getting a word in; thanking her for taking such good care of William, sending him home with health and happiness; adding that she will write soon with an answer about the cottage that her brother mentioned; supporting William's opinion on the inn; (postscript) apologizing for the trouble the journal has caused and adding how poorly her brother is at managing his own affairs, being so used to leaving the little things to others.
