Concerning the extent of Canning's wound from his duel with Lord Castlereagh; informing him that "Canning's wound is really of no consequence - The ball passed through the fleshy part of the left thigh about six inches below the hip on the outside of the bone. At present he scarcely suffers any pain - but I conclude that he must expect to have some fever which will make him more weary than he is now. It was in the second exchange of shots that Castlereaghs ball took effect;" sending him "a set of Chalmer's Treaties" from the Office which the Under Secretary elect whoever he may be, must replace."
