Saying she amuses him "mightily, as far as anything can amuse me, with your notions of 'self-denial' and the way it is to be brought about;" relating it to the Roman fable of Marcus Curtius and to the last stanza of George Herbert's poem 'The Dialogue', from which he quotes the last stanza.
