Canning gives the place of writing as Gloucester Lodge, a house he owned in Brompton (now considered part of London) from 1809 to 1825.
Meheux was an employee of the East India Company and appears to have been working as Assistant Secretary to the Board of Control when this letter was written. Lord Minto served as Governor-General of India from 1806 to 1813.
