Lettered within design: Border Tales Maxwell [with the name "Cooper" struck out beneath] London Bentley.
Original watercolor of a design for a "yellow-back" cover for an edition of the W.H. Maxwell novel Border tales, and legends of the Cheviots and the Lammermuir; published by the firm of Richard Bentley, probably sometime during the 1850's.
