Summary:
Sketches and studies in pen and ink on recto for a design showing a winged female figure kneeling down to embrace a cherub who walks towards her, urged on by a man who stands behind the child at left, the scene set against a background of of trees and ruined buildings; sketch at lower right is captioned by the artist, "First sketch of the League of Nations / Love Among the Ruins. Dedicated to the League of Nations." On verso: pencil sketch showing various figures seated at a bar, with an emaciated figure leaning on a piano and singing in the foreground; caption at lower right reads, "Cafe Royale".
